What is NADH – Coenzyme1 – Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide Hydrogen?
NADH stands for nicotinamide-adenine-dinucleotide-hydrogen and is the activated form of niacin (vitamin B3). NADH, also known as coenzyme 1, occurs naturally in everybody and plant cells and is essential for increasing energy and cell growth.NADH and NAD+ – What’s the difference?
The most crucial difference between NADH and NAD+ is that NADH has been shown to go into the cell and increase ATP energy production there. Thus, when the cell has more energy, it can produce all the molecules necessary for cell regulation form in sufficient amounts. NAD+ does NOT enter the cell and, therefore, cannot form ATP. This has been proven in the study. The precursors of NAD+, such as nicotinamide ribosides or NMN (nicotinamide mononucleotides), also do not pass through the cell membrane because both are positively charged molecules. These cannot penetrate the lipid layer of the cell membrane. This statement is made clear by the following diagram shown here.
There are more than 50 scientific studies on the biological functions and therapeutic effects of NADH, and many studies have also been published on the safety and freedom from side effects of NADH. Should you take NADH Coenzyme 1? / How much NADH daily? (daily dose)

Das Können von Nahrungsergänzungsmitteln verbirgt sich bereits im Wort: Bei gesunden Menschen sollen die Mittel die „normale“ bzw. allgemeine Ernährung ergänzen. Im Gegensatz zum Arzneimittel können Nahrungsergänzungsmittel also keine Krankheiten behandeln, sondern nur etwas zur Gesunderhaltung beitragen.
Die Nährstoffe in Nahrungsergänzungsmitteln, also Vitamine, Mineralstoffe, Aminosäuren, Fettsäuren, pflanzliche Extrakte etc. werden in dosierter Form als Kapseln, Tabletten, Pulver oder Ampullen angeboten. Das kann nützlich sein, wenn Menschen einen erhöhten Nährstoffbedarf haben, etwa in der Schwangerschaft oder während einer Diät. Vitamine, Mineralstoffe und sonstige Stoffe ergänzen dann versorgend den Stoffwechsel.
Für Nahrungsergänzungsmittel gibt es kein Zulassungsverfahren, eine Anzeige beim Bundesamt für Verbraucherschutz und Lebensmittelsicherheit reicht aus. Wo ist das Problem?
Im Regal der Apotheke oder des Drogeriemarktes stehen Nahrungsergänzungsmittel neben frei verkäuflichen Medikamenten. Für den Käufer ist der Unterschied auf den ersten Blick nicht auszumachen, ob er bei Husten oder bei Verstopfungen zu einem Medikament mit nachgewiesener Wirkung oder zu einem Nahrungsergänzungsmittel greift.
Umso schwerer wird eine sinnvolle Entscheidung für die Menschen, da viele traditionelle Arzneistoffe – wie beispielsweise Ginkgo – inzwischen in der EU auch in Nahrungsergänzungsmitteln vertrieben werden. Doch während Arzneimittel auch hier ausschließlich mit der durch das Zulassungsverfahren nachgewiesenen Wirkung des Produkts werben dürfen, gibt es für die Richtigkeit der Werbeaussagen für pflanzliche Stoffe auf Nahrungsergänzungsmitteln bisher immer noch keine ausreichende Kontrolle.
Dabei hat der europäische Gesetzgeber mit der so genannten Health Claims-Verordnung entschieden, dass nur solche nährwert- und gesundheitsbezogene Angaben über Lebensmittel zulässig sind, die durch anerkannte wissenschaftliche Erkenntnisse nachgewiesen sind.
Seitdem wurden 4637 Anträge auf Überprüfung der gesundheitsbezogenen Aussagen (Health Claims) gestellt. 2758 dieser Health Claims wurden bewertet. Die übrigen, also fast die Hälfe der Claims sind bis heute nicht bewertet. Stattdessen darf mit einigen tausenden gesundheitsbezogenen Aussagen weiterhin ungeprüft auf Nahrungsergänzungsmitteln geworben werden. Dafür sorgt eine Übergangsregelung.
Fazit: Was dürfen wir schlussendlich unseren geschätzten Kunden über die Wirkung der Inhaltsstoffe in den Nahrungsergänzungsmittel berichten? Nichts – der Kunde darf raten!
